In book form, or course, because in class we have to do a report on an important person but also the style of biographies. Please don't give random actresses or musicians, only ones that have made a significant impact on the world, but also not typical people ( say Abraham Lincoln, or Martin Luther King Jr.) Thank you! (Sorry for being picky!) moreResolved Question: what was martin luther king jr's major contributions?
doing a biography. would also help if theres any websites out there. please and thank you moreResolved Question: Why is everyone I admire and have learned from deceased?
I have noticed that the people who have inspired me into the fields of my interest now, are mostly dead. Bob Marley - I listen to his music and don't belong to earth in the physical form anymore. Someone can slap me with a wet fish and I'll still be inspired to draw a masterpiece when i'm listening to him. Jesus - don't need to write anything Tupac - One of my favourite people to have ever lived. I hate how he described himself as a rebel without a cause because he was quite the opposite, he has sparked my mind in so many different fields i'm glad that he lived and did what he did. Shakespeare - one of the leading catalysts for my desire to write poetry. Alongside Macbeth, Othello, is in my eyes one of the most interesting stories ever written, it can be analysed for so many different aspects. Bruce Lee - a philosopher not just a martial artist. He is the first person other than God that I grew up "idolising". From the age of 6 upwards I would watch repeat Bruce Lee films and started Karate at 6 because of my awe. I finished about 9 years later. Walter Tull - first black person of the British army in WW1 Khallid Muhammad - Although a black nationalist, I believe he was a saving grace for black people, in that he unearthed their forgotten history and gave them hope. A modern Malcolm X. MichelAngelo - My favourite renaissance because of the sheer scale of his work. His free hand drawings even inspired me to draw in a certain way, shape and form. My grandfather - Taught me so much in a little space of time, I wouldn't do him justice on Yahoo Answers. Malcolm X - His biography taught me a great deal about not just how society was, but how it is now. It is a reflection, and I believe Malcolm X is one of the bravest men to have ever lived in the 20th century. Martin Luther King Jr - I consider Martin to be a modern Moses. To stand in the face of people who hate you and tell them you just want to get along... He commanded large audiences, even whites protested with him. I still listen to his speeches. Lynden David Hall - One of the best music artists I have ever heard (seriously) he died so young, and despite this I can't help but be inspire by his music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SspudbNSLKI Biggie Smalls - I have been brought up around an environment I would call the streets, his music is controversial but when me and my boys have nothing to do, what do we do? Put on some Biggie and reminisce on the old times. 761st Tank Battalion of America in WW2 - I read "Brothers in Arms" written by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and it inspired me to be one of the FIRST people to do something, to create a landmark, make a difference. My question is based on why? Why is everyone I have learned from no longer alive. Should I take this as a sign? Do not say that I am just considering them because they are dead, no. In fact, this question was spurred by my boss at work, during a conversation she mentioned that everyone I talked of, spoke of, and admired was dead. Then a huge question mark appeared in my mind. God bless the dead, much love, Talawah. moreResolved Question: PLEASE HELP WiTH MY ELA PROJECT ABOUT MARTiN LUTHER KiNG Jr.??:( iT'S DUE TOMORROW!?

Hi. I need help with my Homework. Can you please Read THIS short story and ANSWER one Question : QUESTION : Using Oliver Stone’s essay “Where I Find My Heroes”, write an evaluation of the author’s argument. First, explain the writer’s purpose, or intent, and the main opinion, or claim, the writer is defending. Then, describe the means of support the author uses (facts, examples, loaded words, anecdotes, and so forth). Next, describe the tone of the piece. Finally, comment on how successful the author was in convincing you with his argument. Was your heart touched? You mind? Both? READ THIS : Where I Find My Heroes from McCall’s Magazine, November 1992 Oliver Stone Oliver Stone became a movie director after serving in the Vietnam War. His films have explored historical subjects, such as the Vietnam War and President Kennedy’s assassination. It’s not true that there are no heroes anymore—but it is true that my own concept of heroism has changed radically over time. When I was young and I read the Random House biographies, my heroes were always people like George Washington and General Custer1 and Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. Men, generally, and doers. Women—with the exception of Clara Barton, Florence Nightingale, and Joan of Arc2 —got short shrift.3 Most history was oriented toward male heroes. But as I’ve gotten older, and since I’ve been to war, I’ve been forced to reexamine the nature of life and of heroism. What is true? Where are the myths? The simple acts of heroism are often overlooked—that’s very clear to me not only in war but in peace. I’m not debunking4 all of history: Crossing the Delaware5 was a magnificent action. But I am saying that I think the meaning of heroism has a lot to do with evolving into a higher human being. I came into contact with it when I worked with Ron Kovic, the paraplegic6 Vietnam vet, on Born on the Fourth of July. I was impressed by his life change, from a patriotic and strong-willed athlete to someone who had to deal with the total surrender of his body, who grew into a nonviolent and peaceful advocate of change in the Martin Luther King, Jr., and Gandhi7 tradition. So heroism is tied to an evolution of consciousness…. Since the war, I’ve had children, and I’m wrestling now with the everyday problems of trying to share my knowledge with them without overwhelming them. It’s difficult to be a father, to be a mother, and I think that to be a kind and loving parent is an act of heroism. So there you go—heroes are everyday, common people. Most of what they do goes unheralded, unappreciated. And that, ironically, is heroism: not to be recognized. Who is heroic? Scientists who spend years of their lives trying to find cures for diseases. The teenager who says no to crack. The inner-city kid who works at McDonald’s instead of selling drugs. The kid who stands alone instead of joining a gang, which would give him an instant identity. The celebrity who remains modest and treats others with respect, or who uses his position to help society. The student who defers the immediate pleasure of making money and finishes college or high school. People who take risks despite fears. People in wheelchairs who don’t give up…. We have a lot of corruption in our society. But we mustn’t assume that everything is always basely motivated. We should allow for the heroic impulse—which is to be greater than oneself, to try to find another version of oneself, to grow. That’s where virtue comes from. And we must allow our young generation to strive for virtue, instead of ridiculing it. Thanks :) moreResolved Question: What is a good person to read a biography on?
It has to be a person who made a POSITIVE contribution (that cuts the options back a lot) and the book has to be at least 200 pages, although just the person would be good for you to mention. But here's the deal. Want to do something more original, so no Martin Luther King, Jr Gandhi Abe Lincoln Einstein Nobody TOO famous I guess a good example of someone that is about at my fame level is Johannes Gutenberg. moreResolved Question: Should Obama have asked more Clergy to pray at the Inauguration? Controversy (10 points for best discussion)?
Washingtonpost dot-com includes these details about the one giving the INVOCATION and the one giving the BENEDICTION: Obama instead turned to two preachers who could set a tone for his administration. "I'm overwhelmed. I'm very grateful. I'm humbled and honored," Rev. Joseph Lowery said in a telephone interview. "When we worked on the Voting Rights Act in the '60s, we hoped and felt that one day there would be an African-American president. I honestly can say I didn't think I'd live long enough to see it." Lowery's biography reads like a history of the civil rights movement. As a young pastor in 1950s Alabama, he helped lead the Montgomery bus boycotts. With the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and others, Lowery created the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which anchored the national civil rights movement. In 1965, Lowery played a key role in the bloody, pivotal Selma-Montgomery March. He led a delegation of marchers presenting their demands to then-segregationist Alabama Gov. George Wallace. Lowery, a Methodist, expanded his agenda in later years to fight poverty, stop violence and end apartheid. In 2006, he drew criticism _ and a standing ovation _ at Coretta Scott King's funeral by condemning the Iraq war and poverty in the U.S. as Bush looked on. Rick Warren, 54, has become the most prominent clergyman of his generation. His Saddleback Community Church in Orange County, Calif., has grown to more than 22,000 worshippers each week. His book, "The Purpose Driven Life" is one of the best-selling books in the world, with more than 30 million copies sold. He is mobilizing churches around the globe to fight poverty and illiteracy through his P.E.A.C.E coalition. Last month, he joined forces with Reader's Digest Association Inc., to launch a multimedia juggernaut based on his "Purpose Driven" writing. He and his wife, Kay, have become leading advocates for people with HIV/AIDS. On Dec. 1, World AIDS Day, the Warrens gave Bush an award for creating a multimillion-dollar U.S. fund to combat the virus. With Warren, "Obama shows he is willing to work with a new breed of evangelical and kind of move beyond the tired figures associated with the religious right," said Randall Balmer, a Barnard College professor of religious history and author of "God in the White House." 10 POINTS FOR BEST DISCUSSION - - thanks for your thoughtful replies moreResolved Question: How Did Martin Luther King Jr. Love God, Change the World and Love His neighbor?
